This is the fourth consecutive year, in which the Lokarjeva gallery, together with the Fine Artists Association from Northern Primorska, has organized a resounding international watercolour festival. It all started in 2015 when none of the organizers knew very well if the idea of the festival would bring success or whether it would only be a one-year episode. But in the first year, the international response was huge, and so this year, the second small format watercolour edition is taking place.
The festival was open for every artist in every watercolour technique. This year, 475 watercolours from 38 countries were sent in the first round. The professional art committee composed of three art historians, Dr. Nelida Nemec, the representative of the committee, Anamarija Stibilj Šajn and Maja Pangos, and three painters, Lucijan Bratuš, Azad Karim and Vladimir Bačič, reviewed all incoming watercolour works in the first round and selected 124 authors from 37 countries for the exhibit. Among the incoming watercolours, the committee granted five awards and ten diplomas. The aim was to find and to reward those watercolours that, aside from portraying a suitable depiction, carry within artistic problem solving.
